Penultima Theatre Company began as a cohort of fifth-semester students at Atlantic Acting School's Full Time Conservatory. The name comes from the English word "penultimate" meaning second to last; this is the penultimate theatre company to stem from this program, which has since transitioned to only four semesters for all incoming students.
We started strong with our inaugural production of Stephen Adly Guirgis' The Last Days of Judas Iscariot, directed by Duran Arturo Lucio. This was a sold out weekend of performances at Atlantic Theatre Company's Stage 2, an Off-Broadway venue. While we are still a very young company, we're on a mission to break free from the confines of traditional theater.
We explore new creative processes to expand the theatrical canon. How do we celebrate voices that have previously been silenced? How can we tailor our rehearsal approach to each project's unique essence? What fresh perspectives can we bring to classic works?We strive to push the boundaries of theater, nourishing the artistic souls of our audience and artists alike.
